Sunday 17th September saw the 3rd annual Thamesmead 5K take place and Team Personal Best were pleased to be invited to attend by the organisers, Now’s the Time, Thamesmead and be part of the event.
The sun wasn’t shining as in previous years, but the weather was dry and not too cold and this probably inspired the people who came along and signed-up on the day to take part, including the winner!
The route starts in Crossway Park and after one lap of the park, follows an out and back configuration, along part of the recently renewed Ridgeway, through Southmere Park and on to Lesnes Abbey for the water station and turn around. One of the Team Personal Best team was marshalling at a picturesque spot in Southmere Park, at the base of the viewing gallery.
Two popular local running groups had runners taking part; the Thamesmead Running Club and the Belvedere Plodders, accompanied by their group leaders; Charlene and Tim respectively. The event includes a team competition, as well as individual prizes, which the Mayor was on hand to present.
Once the runners were on the way, a family one-mile event took place in Crossway Park with the proceeds from both events being donated to the local Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.
If you are interested in finding a local running group, you can visit www.runtogether.co.uk for information about groups, their sessions and their leaders, together with contact details and an online booking system.
